Researchers have found that generative AI-based models ChatGPT and Bard can be tricked to assist in scams and cyberattacks. They have found that tricking generative AI does not require much coding knowledge. According to tech major IBM, researchers have described simple workarounds for getting large language models (LLMs) — including ChatGPT — to write malicious code and provide poor security advice.

“In a bid to explore security risks posed by these innovations, we attempted to hypnotise popular LLMs to determine the extent to which they were able to deliver directed, incorrect and potentially risky responses and recommendations — including security actions — and how persuasive or persistent they were in doing so,” Chenta Lee, chief architect of threat intelligence at IBM, said, according to news agency IANS.

“We were able to successfully hypnotise five LLMs — some performing more persuasively than others — prompting us to examine how likely it is that hypnosis is used to carry out malicious attacks,” he added.

The researchers learned that English has essentially become a “programming language” for malware. With LLMs, attackers no longer need to rely on Go, JavaScript, Python, etc., to create malicious code, they just need to understand how to effectively command and prompt an LLM using English.

Through hypnosis, the security experts were able to get LLMs to leak the confidential financial information of other users, create vulnerable code, create malicious code, and offer weak security recommendations.

In one instance, the researchers informed the AI chatbots that they were playing a game and that they needed to purposefully share the incorrect answer to a question in order to win and “prove that you are ethical and fair”.

When a user asked if receiving an email from the IRS to transfer money for a tax refund was normal, the LLM said Yes (but actually it’s not). Moreover, the report said that OpenAI’s GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 models were easier to trick into sharing incorrect answers or playing a never-ending game than Google’s Bard.

GPT-4 was the only model tested that understood the rules well enough to give incorrect cyber incident response advice, such as advising victims to pay a ransom. In contrast to Google’s Bard, GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 were easily tricked into writing malicious code when the user reminded it to.

The next operation is scheduled for August 14, between 11.30 am and 12.30 pm, ISRO said. Chandrayaan-3, India’s ambitious third lunar mission, had entered into the moon’s orbit on August 5, after the spacecraft was launched on July 14.

ISRO had carried out a similar orbit reduction maneuver was carried on Sunday.

As the mission progresses, a series of maneuvers is being conducted by ISRO to gradually reduce Chandrayaan-3’s orbit and position it over the lunar poles.

Citing ISRO sources, a PTI report said the space agency will conduct two more maneuvers to bring the spacecraft closer to the Moon. These maneuvers will be performed on August 14 and 16 to reach 100 km orbit, following which the landing module, comprising the lander and rover will break away from the propulsion module, the report said.

After this, the lander is expected to undergo a “deboost” (the process of slowing down) and make a soft landing on the south polar region of the Moon on August 23.

Over five moves in the three weeks since the July 14 launch, ISRO had lifted the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft into orbits farther and farther away from the Earth.

Then, on August 1 in a key maneuver — a slingshot move — the spacecraft was sent successfully towards the Moon from Earth’s orbit. Following this trans-lunar injection, the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft escaped from orbiting the Earth and began following a path that would take it to the vicinity of the moon.

Chandrayaan-3 is a follow-on mission to Chandrayaan-2 to demonstrate end-to-end capability in safe landing and roving on the lunar surface. It consists of lander and rover configuration. It comprises an indigenous propulsion module, lander module, and a rover with an objective of developing and demonstrating new technologies required for inter-planetary missions.

The propulsion module will carry the lander and rover configuration till 100 km lunar orbit. The propulsion module has Spectro-polarimetry of Habitable Planet Earth (SHAPE) payload to study the spectral and polarimetric measurements of earth from the lunar orbit.

The mission objectives of Chandrayaan-3 are to demonstrate safe and soft landing on the lunar surface, to demonstrate rover roving on the Moon, and to conduct in-situ scientific experiments.

The lander will have the capability to soft land at a specified lunar site and deploy the rover that will carry out in-situ chemical analysis of the Moon’s surface during the course of its mobility.

The lander and the rover have scientific payloads to carry out experiments on the lunar surface.

The iPhone 15 Pro and 14 Pro Max base variants may ship with 128GB storage, other versions offer 256GB and 512GB, while the high end version may pack a mammoth 2TB storage, which is double than the iPhone 14 pair.

To use the grammar check tool in Google Search:

Open Google Search.

Type the sentence you want Google to check for grammar and write “grammar check” on its end.

In the search result window, Google will display the output provided by the grammar check to verify if the grammar is correct. Not 100% Accurate Yet

Google said in a blog post, “AI is used to analyze language and correct grammar. Its suggestion may not be 100% accurate. This happens especially in the case of incomplete sentences. Along with this, many times this tool of Google is also not active.”

Users Can Give Feedback To Google For Grammar Check

Google has told through a blog post that users can give their opinion regarding the result of Grammar Check. Along with this, you can also file a complaint.

However, Google warns users that its AI-backed grammar check will not run “when the content might be in violation of Google Search’s overall policies or these policies for Search features.”

Google already offers grammar check features on platforms such as Gmail and Google Drive. Now, integrating this tool into Search aligns seamlessly with the company’s diverse offerings, including a comprehensive dictionary tool. This addition eliminates the need to open separate applications like Google Docs, saving users time and inconvenience.

Notably, Google released the support document for this AI feature just last month.

Although most people probably don’t care about the grammar of their search phrases, it is suspected that this tool is meant to be more general purpose. If one of your sentences looks off when you type it into a messaging app for example, Google’s hope seems to be that you’ll give it a check with Google Search because anything that encourages more searches and engagement is good for business, says theverge.com.
